Barbara Fern Bagby
December 29, 1918 – December 17, 2011
Barbara Fern Bagby passed away peacefully December 17, 2011 with Ace, Bobbie, and Josh at her side, twelve days before her 93rd birthday.
Born December 29, 1918 in Pacific Grove, California to Harvey D. and Mabel L. (Kent) Stutzman, Barbara had 2 sisters and 1 brother. She graduated from Pacific Grove High in 1937 where she was Student Body President and active in sports. “She is the mirror of all courtesy,” it was written of her then, and it stood true for her entire lifetime.
Graduating from San Jose State College in 1941 with a degree in Education, she taught for three years in the Monterey area. In 1942 she married her longtime sweetheart Delos “Ace” Bagby. They settled in Los Gatos where Ace became principal at Cambrian School and later became district superintendent. Barbara created a loving and comfortable home for her husband, eventually giving birth to two children.
Throughout her life she loved enjoying the natural flora and fauna, especially birds and listening to breezes rustling the leaves. She loved traveling with her husband and family, ballroom dancing, attending cultural events, walking, reading, and gardening.
Beloved by her family and a circle of lifelong friends, Barbara will be remembered for her gracious and welcoming ways, her practical nature, remarkable memory, and unassuming humility about her accomplishments.
She is survived by her husband Ace, daughter Bobbie, son Josh, son-in-law George, brother Jack, and an extended family of nieces, nephews, and their children.
