Delos Miles “Ace” Bagby, for whom the Delos M. Bagby School in San Jose, California was named, became District Superintendent of the Cambrian Elementary School District in 1944.
Bagby was hired to run the district which at the time consisted of one five-room school and 179 students. At its peak in 1968, the district served 5,777 students in ten schools, and had 400 employees. As superintendent, Bagby built nine schools in addition to Cambrian, which he expanded. Those schools were Steindorf, Metzler, Bagby, Fammatre, Price, Sartorette, Hogue, Farnham, and Bohnett.
He remained in the district for 33 years until his retirement in 1977.
He led a rich retirement life until his death in 2014 at the age of 95 years, eight months.
